Enagas Divests $1.1 Billion Stake in Tallgrass to Blackstone Infrastructure for Decarbonization Focus

In a recent development within the energy sector, Spanish gas network operator Enagas SA has reached an agreement to sell its 30% stake in US pipeline firm Tallgrass Energy to Blackstone Infrastructure Partners for $1.1 billion. The transaction, which is expected to close by the end of July, is a strategic move by Enagas to focus on decarbonization efforts and enhance the security of energy supply in Spain and Europe.

The sale was disclosed in a regulatory filing, causing Enagas shares to rise by as much as 5.7% in Madrid trading, marking the stock’s largest intraday gain since January 2021. Tallgrass Energy, a critical player in the US energy infrastructure, operates multiple pipelines, storage sites, and terminals across the Midwest, with a transport capacity of up to 10.3 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.

This acquisition aligns with Blackstone Infrastructure Partners’ objective of enhancing its portfolio within the US energy sector. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, both firms are positioning themselves to adapt to new challenges and opportunities.
