Retired Weil Partner Alfredo R. Pérez Appointed as Bankruptcy Judge in Southern District of Texas

Recently retired Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP partner Alfredo R. Pérez is set to take the bench as a bankruptcy judge in the Southern District of Texas next week. Pérez will be sworn in on July 16 at the Houston courthouse, according to Chief Judge Randy Crane. Pérez fills the seat vacated by David R. Jones, who resigned following the admission of a romantic relationship with a local attorney. Pérez, who spent his career as a top restructuring lawyer, will handle complex and corporate cases, joining the so-called “complex panel” immediately upon his appointment.

Pérez’s appointment followed a completed background check, as noted by Chief Judge Crane in an email.
