Trial Set for Man Accused of Attempting to Assassinate Justice Brett Kavanaugh

An armed man arrested outside Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home in 2022 and charged with attempting to assassinate the jurist is scheduled for trial. Court documents indicate that federal prosecutors have requested a scheduling conference to set a trial date in Maryland federal court.

The defendant, Nicholas John Roske, 28, from Simi Valley, California, was apprehended in June 2022 outside Kavanaugh’s residence in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Roske allegedly confessed to investigators that he had traveled to Kavanaugh’s home with intentions to kill him. His motivations, as detailed in an affidavit filed after his arrest, stemmed from distress over a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and the belief that Kavanaugh would vote in a particular way related to gun rights and control.

According to prosecutors, the parties have been unable to reach a plea agreement, necessitating a trial. This case will unfold under intense scrutiny, given the high-profile nature of the targeted individual and the political tensions surrounding gun legislation in the United States.
