A task force from the State Bar of Texas has been diligently working on recommendations regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the legal profession. After a year of intensive research, the first draft of these recommendations is anticipated to be published before the conclusion of this fiscal year. This initiative, mandated by the 2023 state bar president Cindy Tisdale, underscores the increasing significance of AI in the legal field and the need for responsible use and implementation.
Recently, Joshua Weaver, a state bar staff liaison to the Taskforce for Responsible AI in the Law (TRAIL), provided a status update to the Committee on Disciplinary Rules and Referenda. This joint committee, consisting of members from the state bar and the Texas Supreme Court, will oversee the development of the final rules based on these recommendations. More details can be found here.
The interim report has already been submitted to the Committee on Disciplinary Rules and Referenda. As AI technologies continue to evolve, the legal sector faces unique challenges and ethical considerations, making this a crucial step towards establishing comprehensive guidelines.
