Former California State Bar Executive Director Joe Dunn has been found guilty of misrepresenting his use of state bar funds during an educational trip to Mongolia, according to a recent ruling by State Bar Court Judge Yvette D. Roland. The misrepresentation has led the court to impose a stayed suspension of Dunn’s law license for one year, accompanied by a one-year probation period.
Judge Roland’s decision, detailed in her official opinion, concluded that the misconduct was isolated and occurred over a decade ago. Despite the isolated nature of the incident, the judge found clear and convincing evidence that Dunn was culpable of misusing the funds.
During his tenure, Dunn undertook the trip to Mongolia with the stated goal of training attorney regulators in the region. However, discrepancies in how the trip was funded led to the current legal challenges and consequent disciplinary actions.
