Republican Attorneys General Urge Supreme Court to Block LGBTQ+ Protections in Schools

Three Republican attorneys general have petitioned the US Supreme Court to sustain a district court’s injunction that prevents the Biden administration from applying sex discrimination protections to LGBTQ+ students. Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, alongside the attorneys general of West Virginia and Kentucky, submitted a filing on Friday urging the justices to dismiss the government’s emergency request. The request seeks to partially lift the existing injunction which bars the implementation of an Education Department rule that aims to prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in federally funded schools.
