New York Governor Kathy Hochul is currently facing legal challenges concerning the stalled implementation of a congestion pricing plan. The Traffic Mobility Act, enacted in 2019, mandated the introduction of a tolling program aimed at reducing traffic congestion and pollution by charging drivers $15 to enter Manhattan below 60th Street. The program, which had broad support as a means to alleviate transportation issues within one of the world’s busiest cities, has yet to be implemented.
According to a report by the New York Law Journal, two new lawsuits have been filed in an attempt to compel the state to move forward with the plan. The legal actions underscore growing frustration among stakeholders who argue that the delays are undermining efforts to manage traffic and environmental concerns in Manhattan.
