Seventh Circuit Upholds $12,000 Sanctions Against Chicago Attorney for 2017 Deposition Assault

Sanctions against Chicago attorney Caryn Shaw, implicated in an alleged assault on opposing counsel following a “heated” deposition, have been upheld by the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Shaw is now required to pay nearly $12,000 in attorney’s fees. This decision comes after a contentious encounter back in 2017 between Shaw, her co-counsel Donald Villar, and the board’s assistant deputy general counsel, Lisa Dreishmire, during the deposition of the board’s chief of security.

In its ruling, the Seventh Circuit affirmed the sanctions and fee against Shaw but vacated the cases involving two of her co-counsels. For further details, see Bloomberg Law.
