Former CFO Sentenced to Five Years for Embezzling $1.5 Million and Tax Evasion

John Dunlea, the former chief financial officer for McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, has been sentenced to five years in prison after admitting to embezzling over $1.5 million from the firm and evading state income taxes. Morris County Superior Court Judge Stephen J. Taylor issued the sentence, also ordering Dunlea to pay more than $20,000 in restitution to the state. Dunlea’s attorney, Ricardo Solano Jr. of Gibbons, remarked that Dunlea’s conduct was “aberrational and highly unlikely to ever repeat itself,” expressing gratitude for the court’s decision to impose the minimum sentence possible.
