Litigation firm Manning Gross & Massenburg (MG+M) has made a significant addition to its legal arsenal by acquiring Boston-based boutique Donovan Hatem. This acquisition will see MG+M add 21 attorneys, including eight partners, to its roster, expanding its expertise particularly in representing infrastructure design clients. MG+M now boasts over 185 attorneys across 15 cities, with expectations to surpass 200 lawyers by year’s end. This development underscores a broader trend of increasing law firm mergers, with a record 29 mergers announced in the first half of the year according to Fairfax Associates.
John B. Manning, chairperson of MG+M, highlighted that the new attorneys bring a wealth of talent, specifically in representing design professionals within the insurance sector. This strategic fit was echoed by David Hatem, executive chair of Donovan Hatem, who noted that MG+M’s culture aligned seamlessly with his firm’s goals, facilitating an expansion not just geographically but also into new substantive areas like transactions and corporate organizations. MG+M’s philosophy of selective growth that preserves its core culture of teamwork and client service has been a guiding principle in this acquisition.
Donovan Hatem’s specialization in advising architects, engineers, construction managers, and insurance companies on large-scale projects such as tunnels and bridges, positions MG+M to enhance its service offerings significantly.
