Attorneys for the popular animated kids YouTube show CoComelon have been awarded $6.6 million in fees and costs following a successful copyright infringement lawsuit against rival BabyBus. A federal jury was convinced that BabyBus, a Chinese company, infringed on CoComelon’s copyrights.
Judge Edward M. Chen issued the order on Tuesday, granting the sum to CoComelon’s owner, Moonbug Entertainment Ltd. The awarded amount is slightly less than the initial request of approximately $7.5 million. The final amount comprises $5,972,559.85 in attorney fees, $510,008.72 in costs, and $174,922 for additional work undertaken after the trial.
Moonbug had earlier won the bulk of their copyright claims, securing $23.4 million in damages after the jury’s decision. This outcome was a significant victory for Moonbug, strengthening its position against infringements and underscoring the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in the animated content industry.
