Generational Divides in Law Firms: How Age Diversity Impacts Communication and Success


In today’s law firms, the blend of generations presents unique challenges. The hierarchical structure of these firms, emphasizing seniority and often hiring associates right out of law school, results in a diverse age mix within the workforce. However, according to a recent Law.com survey, this age diversity can sometimes be a double-edged sword. The survey, titled “Them Versus Us: Are Generational Divides Affecting Law Firms?”, conducted from April to July, reveals that many law firm employees believe differing communication styles, behaviors, and attitudes across generations are adversely affecting their firm’s operations and success.
