Sally Yates, a King & Spalding partner and former Acting Attorney General under the Obama administration, is stepping into the legal industry’s fundraising efforts for Vice President Kamala Harris’ upcoming presidential campaign. Yates is set to host an event called “Lawyers for Harris” on September 5 in Century City, Los Angeles. Ticket prices for the event start at $1,000 and go up to $10,000, with attendees also having the option to add additional contributions.
The event co-chairs include Aaron Jacoby, managing partner of ArentFox Schiff’s Los Angeles office, and Alex Weingarten, managing partner of Willkie Farr’s Los Angeles office. This move follows significant financial support that Harris has previously received from legal professionals, who donated more than $2 million during her 2018 Senate campaign and over $3 million in her first presidential run in 2020.
This fundraiser is part of a broader strategy to mobilize high-profile legal figures in support of Harris, who recently raised $13 million at a San Francisco fundraiser. Moreover, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff is also hosting a separate fundraiser in Los Angeles with ticket prices ranging from $1,000 to $100,000. Emhoff, a former partner at both Venable and DLA Piper, continues to leverage his connections within the legal community.
Yates, who was dismissed from the Justice Department in 2017 by President Donald Trump, continues to be a prominent figure in Democratic circles.
