Target Corp. has announced the appointment of Amy Tu as its new chief legal and compliance officer and corporate secretary, effective August 25. Tu, who most recently served as chief administrative officer and group president for international markets at Tyson Foods Inc., will succeed Don Liu, Target’s current chief legal officer.
Target CEO Brian Cornell highlighted Tu’s extensive experience in both legal and business sectors as a key asset for the company. Before joining Tyson Foods in 2017, Tu held in-house legal positions at Boeing Co. and Walmart Inc., lending her significant experience in corporate legal affairs and compliance.
Liu, who has been with Target since 2016 after serving as the top lawyer at Xerox Corp., had previously announced his plan to retire within this year. However, he will stay on as a strategy advisor through May 2025, according to a statement from Target.
During her tenure at Tyson Foods, Tu was instrumental in navigating the company through pandemic-related industry challenges. She initially took on the role of general counsel at Tyson, later transitioning to other senior positions within the company. Despite her significant contributions, she was not among the top five highest-paid executives at Tyson last year, according to their latest proxy filing.
Don Liu received approximately $4.2 million in total compensation for the fiscal year 2023, as detailed in Target’s most recent proxy statement. His departure paves the way for Tu’s strategic leadership as Target continues to strengthen its legal and compliance frameworks amid evolving retail landscape challenges.
