The legal community is stepping up its support for Kamala Harris with a high-profile fundraiser set for September. King & Spalding partner Sally Yates, known for her principled stance in defying former President Donald Trump on the travel ban, is hosting the “Lawyers for Harris” campaign reception in Los Angeles.
The event has seen significant engagement from legal professionals, with tickets priced between $1,000 to $10,000. Attendees will also have the opportunity to make additional contributions. Among the event’s lawyer co-chairs are Aaron Jacoby, managing partner of ArentFox Schiff’s Los Angeles office, and Alex Weingarten, managing partner of Willkie Farr’s Los Angeles office. Above the Law reports that the event has already exceeded expectations in terms of fundraising.
Adam Sieff, counsel at Davis Wright Tremaine, who has previously worked on voter protection legal matters for President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign, is one of the co-hosts. Sieff, however, has declined to specify the total amount raised so far. According to Bloomberg Law, lawyers have been particularly enthusiastic in supporting Harris.
Adding to the fundraising efforts, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, formerly a partner at Venable and DLA Piper, hosted his own reception for Harris in Los Angeles. The event had ticket prices ranging from $1,000 to $100,000.
The legal community’s financial backing may prove pivotal as Harris continues her presidential campaign. Whether this robust support will translate into electoral success remains to be seen.
