Virginia attorney Ed Loughran III achieved an unexpected victory at the Bassmaster Elite at Lake Champlain, clinching his first Elite Series title. Loughran, an alumnus of the University of Richmond School of Law, currently practices with Deskevich, Gavin & Harris.
This triumph came with a $100,000 prize and a coveted blue trophy, significant accolades within the angling community. This victory was hard-fought; according to Bassmaster analyst Pete Robbins, Loughran’s lead was reduced to just one ounce on the competition’s final day, a rare razor-thin margin of victory not seen in 13 years.
Reflecting on his win, Loughran remarked, “I had zero thought that I had won. I was hoping to just stay in the Top 5. It’s unbelievable. I’ve never won a big tournament.” The attorney emphasized the personal significance of the achievement, stating, “The money will come and go, but that trophy will not go anywhere.”
