Thomson Reuters Acquires Safe Sign Technologies to Enhance Legal AI Capabilities

On Tuesday, Thomson Reuters announced its acquisition of UK-based startup Safe Sign Technologies to bolster its AI strategy. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Safe Sign, which develops legal-specific large language models (LLMs), was co-founded in February 2022 by Alexander Kardos-Nyheim, currently a trainee solicitor at A&O Shearman, and Dr. Jonathan R. Schwartz, a Cambridge Law AI professor and researcher. Following the acquisition, Safe Sign team members will report to Thomson Reuters’ Chief Technology Officer Joel Hron and collaborate closely with the Thomson Reuters Labs team. Kardos-Nyheim and Schwartz expressed enthusiasm about the merger, emphasizing its potential for significant impact in the field of legal AI.

This acquisition marks Thomson Reuters’ second significant move in generative AI, following its $650 million cash purchase of Casetext in 2023. For more detailed coverage, visit the original article on Law.com.
