A federal judge in Massachusetts has awarded Acquia, a software company based in the state, nearly $17,000 in sanctions following ongoing issues with document production during litigation. In an August 29 opinion by U.S. District Judge Jennifer C. Boal, the court criticized North America Photon Infotech, an information technology consulting company, for what it described as “egregious” behavior in its document production. The sanctions include compensation for attorney fees linked to reviewing approximately 20,000 pages of nonsearchable PDF documents that had been provided. Furthermore, Photon Infotech failed to appear at a scheduled deposition, compounding their infractions.
