European Law Blog Unveils Revamped Website with Enhanced Features for Authors and Readers

The European Law Blog has announced the launch of its revamped website, a significant development aimed at enhancing the platform’s functionality and user experience. The new site, now accessible at https://europeanlawblog.pubpub.org, comes with several new features tailored to better serve both readers and authors.

The website transition is accompanied by a switch to a new newsletter service. Subscribers interested in continuing to receive updates can sign up here. Without re-subscribing, users will no longer receive updates from the old platform.

Behind the scenes, the Blog formalized its governance structure in November 2023 by establishing the non-profit foundation Stichting European Law Blog, aimed at promoting open-access research on EU law. The move has been underpinned financially by the UvA Diamond Open Access Fund.

Key improvements on the new site include increased visibility of authors’ publications in academic search engines, the assignment of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), and an automated citation button. These features are designed to simplify the referencing process and enhance the discoverability of published work. Additionally, a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license has been adopted, promoting open-access publishing by ensuring that the work can be freely accessed and shared.

The submission process for authors has also been streamlined and standardized, maintaining a double-blind peer-review standard. Authors can now directly submit their work through the website, with email submissions still being accepted during the transition period. This is expected to improve the speed and fairness of the review process.

The site now features upgraded sections for academic events and call for papers. Submissions for these announcements can be made directly through the website.

The principles guiding the Blog’s mission remain unchanged. The platform continues to publish high-quality academic commentary on EU law. Efforts are currently underway to migrate posts from the old website to the new one. Users can still access downloadable versions of all blog posts, explore various topics, and browse through the archives.

The Editorial Team at the European Law Blog extends their gratitude to the community for their continued support and looks forward to maintaining the standard of providing insightful legal commentary on EU law.
