Blackstone’s A$24 Billion Acquisition of AirTrunk Guided by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has guided Blackstone Inc. in its ambitious acquisition of Australian data-center operator AirTrunk, a transaction valuing AirTrunk at approximately A$24 billion (USD 16.1 billion). This substantial deal was jointly undertaken with Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, buying out existing investors Macquarie Group Ltd. and PSP Investments. The legal team from Simpson Thacher included New York M&A partners Anthony King and Samuel Rudik, along with Hong Kong banking and credit partner Makiko Harunari, all of whom have previously led significant transactions for Blackstone, such as the $6.3 billion acquisition of Crown Resorts and the $6 billion acquisition of Home Partners of America.

Simpson Thacher’s prominence as one of Big Law’s top dealmakers is reaffirmed through this acquisition, which marks Blackstone’s largest transaction in the Asia-Pacific region to date. Their lawyers have already advised on mergers and acquisitions worth $106.1 billion in the first half of the current year.
