In a significant move for the Harris-Walz campaign, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will be headlining a Texas fundraiser aimed at bolstering Kamala Harris’ presidential bid. The event, set for September 9 in Dallas, is supported by heavyweight figures from prominent law firms.
The fundraiser’s co-hosts include Jill Louis, managing partner at Perkins Coie’s Dallas office, and Paul Coggins, co-chair of Locke Lord’s white collar criminal defense and internal investigations practice group. Another notable co-chair for the event is Regina Montoya, a lawyer deeply involved in the Lawyers for Harris committee.
Tickets for the event span a wide price range, from $1,000 to $100,000, reflecting the high stakes and significant financial backing being sought for the campaign. This comes as the Democratic nominee prepares to debate former President Donald Trump, adding further urgency and visibility to the fundraising efforts.
According to Bloomberg Law, Montoya has highlighted the crucial role attorneys play in this campaign, noting that over half of the invited attendees are from the legal profession. Prominent figures from major firms have ramped up support for Harris, with similar fundraising efforts taking place across the country.
This is not the first time figures from the legal sector have mobilized for Harris. Sally Yates, a partner at King & Spalding and former acting attorney general, has hosted several fundraisers in California, while Rodge Cohen, a senior chairman at Sullivan & Cromwell, recently threw a high-profile lunch event in New York featuring Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
The focus on rapid ticket sales for the Dallas event underscores the urgency: “What we tell people we reach out to is get your ticket early, because all the levels are going to be sold out so you don’t want to wait,” Coggins remarked, emphasizing a nationwide trend of exponential interest and involvement.
This high-profile event not only aims to secure vital funding but also galvanizes legal professionals to play an active role in shaping the upcoming electoral landscape through their support for the Harris-Walz ticket.
