In his keynote speech at the LEX Summit in Salt Lake City, Filevine founder and CEO Ryan Anderson stressed the urgency for law firms to adopt integrated technology platforms, likening the present legal tech landscape to a disorganized collection of point solutions. He argued that this fragmentation leads to inefficiencies and promised that Filevine would address these issues by providing a unified platform.
Anderson narrated an encounter with a practice management leader from an Am Law 200 firm who, during a Filevine demo, described the software as the “single pane of glass” that all attorneys need to manage their tasks. According to Anderson, the legal industry requires a platform that integrates matter management, document management, and timekeeping, similar to how the iPhone combined varied functionalities into one device.
He highlighted that no single product currently excels in these three critical areas, but Filevine aims to change that by committing to be the best at integrating them into a seamless experience. “Very few companies are even good at one of these things – at case management, document management, time and billing – almost nobody can get one of these right,” he said, emphasizing Filevine’s goal to unify these workflows.
Addressing the future directions of the market, Anderson argued that as markets grow, a dominant leader typically emerges, and he believes Filevine will capture that position in legal tech. “We believe the market has spoken and the market demands one seamless platform,” he stated.
During the summit, Anderson also previewed upcoming Filevine features, affirming they would be available at no additional cost to customers. One of the new features, inspired by user feedback, allows for dashboard customization with up to 100 tailored key metrics, underscoring Filevine’s emphasis on user-specific solutions.
Anderson’s speech accentuated the deep relationship between law firms and their case management systems, saying, “Your firms likely interact with us thousands, if not tens of thousands, of times. And there are some firms out there who interact with us 100,000 times every single day. So this relationship is a special relationship.”
