Trans-Atlantic merger discussions between UK and US law firms are gaining momentum as firms on both sides of the Atlantic seek to enhance their global scale. Industry consultants indicate that US firms are eager to establish a broader international presence, while UK firms are drawn to the lucrative potential of markets with the highest legal fees.
“There are Magic Circle and Silver Circle firms that very much have this option on the table, and for the right opportunity and on the right terms, are ready to pull the trigger,” said law firm merger consultant Kent Zimmermann. This sentiment is echoed among top-tier US firms, including those in the Am Law 100 and 200 segments.
