Apple Secures Court Approval for $490 Million Settlement in Securities Fraud Case

Apple Inc. has secured final approval from a federal court for a $490 million settlement to resolve a securities fraud class action. The lawsuit accused the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook, of making misleading statements about Apple’s business in China, which allegedly led to the stock trading at artificially inflated prices. Although Apple has settled the case, it denied any liability.

The settlement, which is one of the largest securities class-action recoveries in the Northern District of California, initially received preliminary approval from Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers on June 6. On Tuesday, Judge Rogers granted her final approval, signifying the conclusion of this high-profile case.

The settlement also includes a substantial $108 million attorney fee awarded to the legal team representing the class, which equates to 22% of the total settlement fund. This pivotal court decision will likely prompt closer scrutiny of corporate statements by both regulators and investors in the ever-vigilant landscape of securities law.
