Rudy Giuliani Loses Law License in Washington, D.C. Following New York Disbarment

Rudy Giuliani, former lawyer to former US President Donald Trump, has lost his law license in Washington, D.C. This decision follows his disbarment by a New York court earlier this summer, a consequence of Giuliani’s attempts to contest the 2020 presidential election results.

The DC Court of Appeals issued the disciplinary action in a brief order on Thursday, aligning its penalty with that of New York, where Giuliani once served as mayor.

The New York disbarment occurred amid ongoing full disciplinary proceedings in Washington, prompting the court to implement reciprocal discipline. Ethics regulators in the capital had already recommended the revocation of Giuliani’s law license due to his involvement in Trump’s post-election legal tactics and promotion of baseless claims of widespread voter fraud.

In the order, the court noted that Giuliani was given the opportunity to contest the disbarment following the New York court’s decision, but he did not respond.

A spokesperson for Giuliani, Ted Goodman, condemned the disbarment as “an absolute travesty and a total miscarriage of justice,” calling it a “partisan, politically motivated decision.”
