New York City Mayor Eric Adams has put forward Muriel Goode-Trufant as his choice for the city’s new Corporation Counsel, the head of the city’s law department. This decision comes after Randy Mastro, a partner at King & Spalding, withdrew his nomination due to considerable opposition from the city council.
Goode-Trufant is a seasoned veteran within the law department, having joined in 1991. Her extensive experience includes serving as the acting Corporation Counsel since the departure of Sylvia Hinds-Radix in late May.
The nomination is happening amidst a tumultuous period for Adams’ administration. Adams is currently facing federal bribery charges, and several of his staff members, including lawyers, have recently left amid multiple federal investigations. These developments are detailed further here.
Goode-Trufant’s nomination will now go to the city council, which previously rejected Mastro, underlining the contentious nature of current City Hall dynamics. More details are available here.
