Kirkland & Ellis Expands Structured Finance Practice with Key Partner Additions

Kirkland & Ellis LLP has announced the addition of two new partners to its expanding structured finance and structured private credit practice. The firm, known for its robust corporate law services, has significantly bolstered its team in recent months, tripling the size of its structured finance unit since May.

Jared Axelrod and Suril Patel are set to join Kirkland’s ranks. Jared Axelrod, formerly a partner at Milbank LLP, will spearhead the firm’s collateralized loan obligation (CLO) practice. This strategic hire underscores Kirkland’s commitment to strengthening its position in the CLO market, an area currently experiencing expanded demand and complexity. Axelrod’s extensive experience in structured finance is expected to be a substantial asset for the firm’s clientele.

In addition to Axelrod, Suril Patel will be joining Kirkland as their first structured finance lawyer based in London. Patel brings a unique perspective to the firm, having previously worked at Harvey, an organization devoted to integrating artificial intelligence into legal practices. His arrival marks Kirkland’s intention to extend its structured finance capabilities on an international scale, serving clients with operations or interests in Europe.

This latest move by Kirkland & Ellis highlights the firm’s aggressive growth strategy in the structured finance sector, a response to increasing client demand for sophisticated credit solutions and advisory services. The firm is focused on capturing market share and delivering value through an expanded team skilled in navigating the complexities of current financial markets.
