Alt Legal Expands into Paralegal Services with Acquisition of WeberMark

Alt Legal, a company well-regarded for its automated trademark docketing software, is making a significant move into the realm of paralegal services with the recent acquisition of WeberMark. This strategic step will see the introduction of Alt Legal Assist, a new brand offering paralegal services, which will complement Alt Legal’s existing docketing and monitoring tools.

According to Nehal Madhani, CEO of Alt Legal, the acquisition aligns with the company’s mission to ease the workload of trademark professionals. “WeberMark’s commitment to client success aligns perfectly with our mission,” Madhani said, explaining that the integration of WeberMark’s expertise will allow Alt Legal to offer comprehensive intellectual property services by merging human skills with technological efficiency.

Amy Weber, the founder of WeberMark, will join Alt Legal alongside her team of paralegals. The company also plans to expand its hiring to satisfy expected increases in demand. Weber highlighted the benefits of the merger, stating, “Joining Alt Legal allows us to continue delivering the high-quality trademark services our clients have come to expect while leveraging advanced tools and resources.”

The push into paralegal services comes in response to client requests for additional support beyond the automation capabilities already provided by Alt Legal’s software. While the software handles much of the docketing and monitoring work, Madhani noted that a human element remains necessary. “This has been a service that our customers have been asking us for a long time,” he noted, emphasizing the intent to maintain quality standards in their new offerings.

Madhani also hinted at the growing potential for automation, particularly through generative AI, to further streamline paralegal tasks. “We feel like technology is at a place right now where we can continue to find new ways to automate even some of this work,” he stated.

The Alt Legal Assist services will be offered on a fixed-fee subscription model. Automation will play a crucial role in streamlining services to provide clients with predictable costs and simplified billing. While certain services will be covered under the subscription, others, such as litigation preparation, will be charged on an hourly basis. “For the paralegals that are supporting our clients, we’re actually pairing them with our engineering team so that anything that can be automated will be,” Madhani stressed.
