Japanese law firm TMI Associates continues to expand its European footprint by opening an office in Brussels. This is the firm’s third European office, following its previous establishments in London and Paris. The move is part of TMI’s strategy to provide clients with updated insights on European Union law and enhance collaboration with its U.K. and French offices.
The Brussels office will be led by Mizuki Koshimoto, a partner specialized in structured finance and U.S.-qualified law, who will relocate from Tokyo. The office aims to assist Japanese firms in renewable energy, carbon credit transactions, and compliance with EU regulations, specifically in the realms of competition law, data protection, and dealing with EU authorities. Akihiro Kudo, a London-based partner with expertise in EU competition law, will also support this initiative.
This expansion mirrors a broader trend among Japanese law firms increasing their presence in Europe via Brussels offices, as seen with Nishimura & Asahi’s recent openings in both London and Brussels, and Atsumi & Sakai’s entry into Brussels earlier this year. These firms are capitalizing on the economic opportunities within Europe and are well-positioned to support Japanese and other Asian businesses with their European business ventures.
