North Carolina’s Digital Court Transition Faces Challenges Amidst Extreme Weather Events

As North Carolina transitions its court systems to digital, the implementation of electronic case filing through eCourts continues amidst significant challenges. The statewide initiative, which has already seen several counties transition from paper to digital filing, faced additional pressure during the late September landfall of Hurricane Helene. The extreme weather event disrupted court operations, compelling lawyers to navigate the complexities of representing clients while managing personal challenges brought on by the storm [Law.com].

Eleven stages are planned for the full transition, and the next step in the rollout will bring thirteen counties in the southeastern region of North Carolina online by February 3. The strategic move towards digitalization aims to streamline court processes and improve access to justice across the state.
