Ron Klain Takes on New York City’s Short-Term Rental Regulations as Airbnb’s Chief Legal Officer

Ron Klain, who has had an extensive career advising three U.S. presidents and two vice presidents, has returned to the private sector and is now addressing a legal battle involving Airbnb. Klain, now the Chief Legal Officer at Airbnb, is seeking to challenge New York City’s ban on short-term rentals, highlighting the historical American tradition of home stays. In a recent Berkeley Law webinar, Klain noted, “I mean having people stay in your home is as old as the American Republic itself. The preamble to our Constitution was written in a home stay by Alexander Hamilton.” The former presidential aide’s expertise is now focused on navigating legal frameworks for Airbnb in one of the world’s most regulated urban settings.
