In a significant development for corporate legal departments, Spellbook, the generative AI company known for pioneering a contract drafting and review copilot in 2022, has unveiled its latest offering—Playbooks. The Playbooks feature is designed to streamline contract-review processes, which are often tedious and time-consuming in high-stakes corporate environments. Read more.
Scott Stevenson, Spellbook’s cofounder and CEO, describes Playbooks as a tool that empowers legal teams to formalize their negotiation strategies. This allows the AI to conduct negotiations using guidelines similar to those that a seasoned General Counsel might use, including preferred language and fallback positions. More details about Spellbook’s new launch are available in the company’s blog.
Since last year, Spellbook has collaborated with over 160 in-house teams, including prominent names like Nestlé and Crocs, to gather feedback and develop this specialized tool. Playbooks promise to expedite contract review processes by up to tenfold, offering in-house legal teams a way to efficiently handle larger volumes of contracts without sacrificing precision.
Playbooks is not only an asset for corporate legal departments but also offers functionalities that are beneficial to law firms. It allows them to create standardized gold-standards for client contract reviews, catering to specific needs associated with different clients. This is facilitated by 12 common rule sets included in the release, although users can also develop custom rule sets.
Furthermore, Playbooks includes a mechanism for passing or failing contract provisions based on set rules, providing AI-generated corrections alongside user-preferred language. Users also have the functionality to create pre-set questions that the system will automatically answer, complete with citations, enhancing research reliability.
Currently, the Playbooks feature is available to all existing Spellbook customers, and those interested in exploring this tool can sign up for a free seven-day trial here.
