Class Action Settlements Sustain Surge with Over $40 Billion Marking Three Competitive Years

For three consecutive years, class action and mass tort settlements have exceeded the $40 billion mark, signaling a potential new era in the legal landscape. According to the Duane Morris Class Action Review 2025, settlements amounted to $42 billion in 2024, despite a decline from the $51.4 billion recorded in 2023 and the $66 billion in 2022. The recent decrease is attributed to the resolution of major litigations involving opioids and “forever chemicals.” Gerald Maatman, Duane Morris partner and co-author of the report, notes that the comprehensive analysis considered approximately 1,440 cases, reflecting a continued momentum in substantial settlement values despite a reduction in 2024.
