Federal prosecutors have requested U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein to examine the potential conflict of interest involving David Siegal, an attorney representing Charlie Javice, the founder of student loan fintech start-up Frank. Javice is currently facing fraud charges. Prosecutors suggest that Siegal’s previous representation of Javice in an unrelated misconduct investigation during her tenure at JPMorgan Chase may pose a conflict. Although there are no allegations of wrongdoing against Siegal, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York recommends that the judge prohibit him from cross-examining witnesses or presenting arguments in matters where he was personally involved.
More details on the situation are available through the New York Law Journal.
