Elizabeth Prelogar Joins Harvard Law Faculty as Visiting Professor to Explore Evolving Supreme Court Dynamics

Elizabeth Prelogar, former Solicitor General, is returning to academia as a visiting professor at Harvard Law School. Following her tenure during which she faced the complexities of arguing cases before a Supreme Court increasingly influenced by conservative judicial appointments, Prelogar is set to impart her insights on these evolving dynamics to law students. This next chapter in her career will involve teaching a course titled “Changing Paradigms in the Supreme Court.” This course will focus on the Court’s recent emphasis on text, history, and tradition, as well as its retreat from adhering strictly to the principle of stare decisis, or respecting previous judicial decisions.

Her experience in the Solicitor General’s office renders her particularly adept at guiding discussions on these shifts within the nation’s highest court. According to Law360, for at least the spring 2025 semester, Prelogar will share teaching responsibilities with Michael Dreeben, another seasoned expert from the Solicitor General’s office.

The course she is scheduled to teach is currently her only commitment, which leaves the door open for future opportunities, potentially in prominent law firms that value her expertise. The legal community continues to speculate on her next moves, but for now, Prelogar’s engagement with Harvard Law will undoubtedly enrich the academic environment with her firsthand experience at the forefront of American jurisprudence.
