Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) is fortifying its German presence with the addition of a 10-member legal team from the US-based firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. This strategic move includes the significant integration of three experienced partners into HSF’s Duesseldorf office. Among these partners are Wilhelm Nolting-Hauff and Oliver Duys, who have been integral to Orrick’s operations since 2008, as well as Nikita Tkatchenko, who has been a partner at Orrick since 2018, with notable expertise in antitrust and merger control law.
The expansion is not limited to the trio of partners. HSF is also welcoming two counsel, three associates, and two foreign counsel, signaling a robust commitment to strengthening its capabilities in the German market. The addition of this substantial team underscores HSF’s ongoing strategy to enhance its offerings in the region and broaden its reach across Europe.
Oliver Duys has played a central role at Orrick, having served as the firm’s German managing partner for a decade. His leadership and deep-rooted connections in the German legal landscape are expected to contribute significantly to HSF’s growth ambitions.
