American Bar Association Pauses Law School Diversity Accreditation Requirement Amidst Federal Review

In a recent declaration, the American Bar Association (ABA) has announced the suspension of a mandate connected to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within law schools, as articulated in Standard 206. This decision reflects a response to actions initiated by the previous administration under President Donald Trump, which targeted DEI programs.

The ABA’s statement outlines that their Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar is engaged in revisiting and possibly revising Standard 206. The aim is to ensure its alignment with federal law. This process is ongoing, and during this phase, the enforcement of the rule in question has been halted.
