LexisNexis and OpenAI Expand Collaboration to Enhance Legal AI Solutions

LexisNexis Legal & Professional and OpenAI have disclosed plans for a closer collaboration to integrate OpenAI’s large language models and application programming interfaces (APIs) across the LexisNexis product spectrum. This strategic alliance aims to augment the capabilities of critical products such as Lexis+ AI and the Protégé personalized AI assistant, leveraging recent advancements in generative AI technology to enhance legal workflows.

The initiative will facilitate the rapid integration of OpenAI models into LexisNexis products, allowing for the joint development of custom large language models (LLMs). These models will aim to improve analytical processes by utilizing enhanced “chain of thought” reasoning capabilities. Since 2022, LexisNexis has employed OpenAI’s technology as part of its versatile approach to identify the most effective AI model for specific legal functions. More details can be found in the original announcement.

In addition to this integration, LexisNexis plans to roll out ChatGPT Enterprise for its global teams. This deployment aims to improve productivity and ensure that customer needs are more effectively met. Jeff Reihl, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at LexisNexis Legal & Professional, noted, “As leaders in customer-focused legal AI, we prioritize selecting top-performing models and quickly integrating those models into our products.” This underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering personalized AI innovations to expedite and enhance legal and business outcomes.
