Walgreens Reaches $97.8 Million Settlement Over Prescription Billing Error

Walgreens has agreed to a $97.8 million settlement with several U.S. states following a billing error related to prescriptions. According to a report from the Connecticut Law Tribune, the settlement addresses claims that Walgreens billed health care programs for prescriptions that were submitted by patients but never picked up. The error stemmed from a software issue, as explained by Fraser Engerman, Walgreens’ senior director of media relations and issues management. The company has since corrected the error, reported the issue, and voluntarily refunded all overpayments. This settlement underscores the importance of robust internal controls and accuracy in billing practices within the healthcare sector.
