Texas Probes Kellogg’s ‘Healthy’ Cereal Claims Over Artificial Dyes Compliance

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated an investigation into WK Kellogg Co. for potentially violating state consumer protection laws through its marketing practices. The investigation targets Kellogg’s promotion of cereals such as Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Frosted Flakes, and Rice Krispies as “healthy,” despite the presence of petroleum-based artificial food colorings linked to various health issues. These issues include hyperactivity, obesity, autoimmune diseases, endocrine disorders, and cancer.

Although Kellogg’s pledged to eliminate artificial food dyes and the preservative BHT from its products, Texas investigators assert that the company has only made these changes in Canadian and European markets, leaving the U.S. products unchanged. The legal scrutiny arises amidst growing concerns regarding consumer transparency, as highlighted by Paxton’s statement emphasizing accountability for misleading health claims.
