Susman Godfrey Challenges Trump’s Executive Order Targeting Law Firm Diversity Efforts

Litigation firm Susman Godfrey has commenced legal proceedings in response to a recent executive order from President Donald Trump that directly impacts the firm. On Monday, Susman Godfrey submitted a request for a temporary restraining order, aiming to block the enforcement of the executive order, as reported by Bloomberg Law.

The executive order, signed by Trump on April 9, imposes restrictions on lawyers’ access to government buildings and mandates federal agencies to terminate contracts with Susman Godfrey’s clients. The rationale behind the order cites concerns about the firm, particularly spotlighting its diversity programs offered to law students. Susman Godfrey runs a two-week diversity fellowship for first-year law students, providing financial and educational support.

In their filing with the US District Court for the District of Columbia, Susman Godfrey emphasized the urgency for immediate relief, stating, “Emergency relief is necessary.” The firm seeks a hearing at the earliest opportunity to contest the enforcement of this executive order.
