Renesas Electronics Seeks Dismissal of Patent Attorney Appeal Over Unfinalized Sanctions Rulings

Renesas Electronics America Inc. has requested that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit dismiss an appeal regarding sanctions and attorney fees orders against Texas-based patent attorney Bill Ramey and his team. Renesas argued that it would be untimely for the appellate court to review the case as the rulings issued by a California judge are not yet finalized.

According to Bloomberg Law, the orders in question involve the imposition of sanctions, currently under contestation by attorneys Ramey, Susan Kalra, and Jeff Kubiak, as they challenge the authority of the California judge who issued them. The matter is still being negotiated within the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, according to Renesas’ recent motion to dismiss filed in federal court.

The attorneys have previously turned to the Federal Circuit seeking relief from the sanctions, which they assert were unfairly imposed. However, with the district court in the process of reviewing filings that contest the original orders, the outcome of this legal challenge remains in deliberation, leaving the appeal potentially premature at this stage.
