In its sixth annual report, the activist group Law Students for Climate Accountability (LSCA) has spotlighted five law firms as the “worst” actors due to their involvement in fossil fuel litigation. The firms identified are Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, Arnold & Porter, Kellogg Hansen, and Baker Botts. This designation highlights the role of legal professionals in supporting the fossil fuel industry through litigation.
The LSCA’s report comes at a time when the legal sector’s influence on climate change is under increasing scrutiny. The group referenced past collaborations between various law firms and the Trump administration as evidence of the sector’s capability to implement significant changes swiftly when desired.
