Los Angeles residents are expressing a marked preference for their state trial court over other governmental institutions, according to a recent county-wide poll conducted at the behest of the California Superior Court. Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed indicated confidence in the Los Angeles County trial court. This figure is notably higher than confidence levels reported for the county police, California’s broader court system, and both the federal court system and the U.S. Supreme Court. The Los Angeles trial court, recognized as the nation’s largest, appears to command a unique level of public trust.
This polling initiative was introduced under the stewardship of Presiding Judge Sergio Tapia II, reflecting his commitment to reinforcing public trust in the court system. The poll highlights areas where the court’s reputation is solid but also areas requiring improvement concerning job performance.
To sustain and strengthen this confidence, the court is planning to modernize its infrastructure, including the introduction of kiosks designed to streamline access to hearings and court services. These improvements align with the court’s broader strategy to enhance accessibility and transparency, ensuring that it continues to serve its constituents effectively.
