French Media Giants File €1 Billion Lawsuit Against Meta Over Data Collection Practices

In a significant legal action, approximately 200 French media companies have initiated a lawsuit against Meta, claiming damages of around €1 billion. The lawsuit accuses the social media giant of “unlawful” business and advertising practices, focusing on alleged illegal user data collection. The case is being spearheaded by the French law firm Darrois Villey Maillot Brochier in collaboration with Scott + Scott, representing 67 media companies, including major regional and national newspapers, as well as television and radio networks. This legal move follows a recent €200 million fine imposed on Meta by the European Union for violations of the Digital Markets Act.
