Supio Secures $60 Million in Series B to Advance AI Legal Tech for Personal Injury Firms

Seattle-based legal technology startup Supio has successfully secured $60 million in a Series B funding round. This infusion of capital, led by Sapphire Ventures with significant participation from Mayfield and Thomson Reuters Ventures, marks a pivotal moment for Supio as it seeks to further expand its AI-powered platform designed specifically for personal injury (PI) law firms. With this latest funding, Supio’s total funding now stands at $91 million, underscoring the increasing importance and validation of AI technology within the legal industry.

Sapphire Ventures, which had previously led Supio’s Series A funding round worth $25 million in August 2024, is renewing its confidence in the startup’s potential. Jerry Zhou, co-founder and CEO of Supio, indicated that the new funding will propel a variety of growth initiatives. Key among these are the expansion of the company’s engineering and AI research teams, and bolstering its presence with a larger workforce across its Seattle headquarters and a newly planned office.

Supio’s AI platform is gaining traction for its ability to assist law firms in organizing, analyzing, and preparing intricate legal cases. By combining purpose-built AI models with human expert verification, Supio ensures a high degree of accuracy and reliability in legal analyses. This is particularly critical in litigation situations where dealing with unstructured data, such as medical records and handwritten notes, is commonplace.

The company proudly shares that its platform has notably impacted litigation results, as evidenced by its involvement in a high-profile case where TorHoerman Law secured a $495 million verdict against Abbott Labs over allegations concerning infant formula. Supio’s platform facilitated significant workflow efficiencies, and evidently contributed to winning larger verdicts and increasing case volumes handled by law firms.

Supio provides a comprehensive suite of tools aimed at automating and enhancing all phases of the case lifecycle, from initial pre-litigation activities through complex litigation. Key features of the platform include:

  • AI-generated demand letters.
  • Interactive case chronologies.
  • Case Signals to flag potentially undiagnosed or misdiagnosed injuries.
  • Document drafting for discovery, opening statements, depositions, and more.
  • Supio Assistant, an AI tool to support a range of litigation tasks.

Rajeev Dham, a partner at Sapphire Ventures and a member of Supio’s board, remarked on the startup’s transformative impact on personal injury and mass tort litigation processes through its specialized AI systems. He noted that the law firms are quick to adopt these AI tools, recognizing the tangible advantages they create in case preparation and outcomes.
