California Businesses Face Legal Scrutiny Over Gender-Based Marketing Practices

California businesses are currently facing class action lawsuits over marketing practices that allegedly breach the state’s civil rights laws by offering promotions tailored specifically for women. These “Ladies Night” promotions are claimed to be in violation of the Unruh Civil Rights Act, which strictly prohibits offering promotions or discounts based on sex or gender, as well as other provisions of the California Civil Code. San Diego attorney Daniel J. Williams has initiated four class actions on behalf of plaintiffs, which also include negligence claims such as negligent hiring, training, and supervision.
