The NextGen Bar Exam, still under development by the National Conference of Bar Examiners, intends to provide a comprehensive assessment by integrating both “concepts and principles” and vital “lawyering skills”. This new format aims to holistically evaluate a wide range of competencies critical for legal practice. The content scope includes fundamental areas such as civil procedure, contract law, evidence, torts, business associations, constitutional law, criminal law, and real property. The exam will replace the existing bar exam structure.

  • The examination will comprise multiple-choice questions, tailored question sets, and longer performance tasks designed to gauge the application of knowledge in practical scenarios.

This transition highlights the national trend of modernizing the bar exam to better align with the evolving demands of the legal field, ensuring that new attorneys are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their practices.
