Rhode Island Adopts NextGen Uniform Bar Exam, Joining Nationwide Modernization Efforts

Rhode Island has officially joined the growing list of states adopting the NextGen Uniform Bar Exam (NextGen UBE), becoming the 36th state and the 40th jurisdiction to make this decision. The Rhode Island Supreme Court, following an extensive study conducted by its Board of Bar Examiners, ruled to implement the NextGen UBE starting with the July 2028 bar examination. The new exam is slated to replace the current Uniform Bar Exam beginning with the July 2026 testing period across other jurisdictions. According to the National Conference of Bar Examiners, this shift is part of a broader effort to modernize bar examinations nationwide.
