Dutch information services giant Wolters Kluwer has announced its agreement to acquire Brightflag, a company specializing in legal spend management software, for €425 million in cash. At approximately $482 million, the acquisition is notable within the legal sector, following Thomson Reuters’ $650 million purchase of legal technology firm Casetext just two years earlier.
Brightflag, known for its AI-driven software aimed at optimizing legal operations, counts major corporations like Dropbox, Ironclad, and Lufthansa among its clients. Ian Nolan, CEO and co-founder of Brightflag, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating that Wolters Kluwer shares the company’s vision of leveraging technology to enhance legal operations.
This move is indicative of the current trend in the legal industry towards the integration of advanced technologies in legal operations. The acquisition is anticipated to be finalized by next month, further solidifying Wolters Kluwer’s standing in the legal technology market, enhancing their suite of services available to corporate legal departments worldwide.
